About WCEAD
A community-based organisation conserving nature and building livelihoods
The World Centre for Environmental and Agricultural Development is a non-profit, non-partisan and non-sectarian community-based organisation founded in Kitagwenda District, Uganda.
Our Story
Born from the community, for the community
WCEAD was formed by founding residents of Nyakasenyi Parish and surrounding communities who recognised that their future depended on protecting the natural resources around them. They came together to establish an organisation that would co-ordinate community initiatives in environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation and livelihood improvement.
Today, WCEAD continues to work in Nyakasenyi Parish, Buhanda Sub-county, Kitagwenda District — and may extend its activities across the district and Uganda in line with its objectives.

From one meeting in 2020 to a growing movement
2020
WCEAD is founded
Established on 2nd May 2020 at Buhanda Trading Centre to co-ordinate community initiatives in environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture and livelihood improvement.
2020
Constitution adopted
Founding members unanimously adopted the WCEAD Constitution as the governing document, electing the first Executive Committee to provide leadership.
2020
Our first roots
Community tree nurseries, environmental awareness and climate-smart farming training began across Nyakasenyi Parish and surrounding communities.
2026
Scaling up restoration
WCEAD prepared a large-scale tree restoration and agroforestry project to strengthen climate resilience for up to 500 smallholder households.
Governance
A clear, constitutional structure
WCEAD is guided by a Constitution adopted in 2020 that sets out a transparent, accountable and democratic governance structure.
General Assembly
The supreme decision-making body of all registered members. It approves work plans, budgets, programmes and constitutional amendments.
Executive Committee
Seven elected office bearers who implement decisions, mobilise resources, supervise programmes and manage WCEAD's property and finances.
The Secretariat
Officially the body that handles the day-to-day work, records and correspondence necessary to keep the organisation running smoothly.
Sub-committees
Established as needed to focus on specific programmes, including our environmental and agricultural development initiatives.
Membership
Membership is open to all who share our vision
Any person who supports WCEAD's objectives, resides or works within its area of operation, and agrees to abide by the Constitution may apply to become a member. We do not discriminate on the basis of sex, tribe, religion, disability or political affiliation.

- Attend and participate in meetings
- Vote at the General Assembly (Ordinary & Founding Members)
- Elect and be elected to leadership positions
- Access relevant information about the Organisation
Founding Members
Community members who founded WCEAD and adopted the Constitution in 2020.
Ordinary Members
Persons admitted after formation who meet membership requirements and enjoy full voting rights.
Honorary Members
Recognised for outstanding contribution. No voting rights unless also an Ordinary Member.
Associate Members
Institutions, groups or supporting individuals who back WCEAD's work without full voting rights.
